I still love my Nikon 80-400mm, but the new Tamron 50-400mm Z mount is lighter, sharper, cheaper, faster to focus and more versatile 🙏📸

Dude the detail on that flower! I've ordered this lens after I saw your first review. Can't wait to get it.

I think I might be buying the Tamron for myself actually. I've got a lot of trips planned next year. Thanks for watching 🙏

Unfortunately I did not had enough for the new 50 to 400, so I got the older f mount 100 to 400 with FTZ adapter. I have to say, the older one still works wonderfully.

Thank you for doing the comparison test. I can’t believe how sharp it is doing macro. I’m considering trading my tamron 70-300 z mount for this lens because of built in vibration reduction on the lens.

Great comparison concisely presented. Glad to hear you’re still using your D750; I just can’t give up shooting with that fabulous camera. Thanks!

What a great winner here !😳
This Nikon 80-400 had always attracted me but each time I was about to purchase one I ended up leaving the idea !
    80 is too long already
    The weight
    The size
    The price

Last week I nearly bought one at 750€ in mint condition but I still didn’t go for it. My AFP 70-300 is so small and sharp…
The frustration for DSLR shooters like me is that we have been abandoned by all the lenses manufacturers like if we were obliged to switch to the mirror less systems. None of them continue to innovate for us

Hi Adrian, great video, buddy! The difference in the maximum focal length is indeed interesting 😯 A "normal" adapter should not have an effect on the focal length. Just a speed booster or a tele converter would have an effect on the focal length. If you used a normal adapter without a glass element inside, I guess that indeed the maximum focal length is different between the lenses. Interesting... 🙂
    However, have a great weekend,
    Christian

Thanks for watching Christian. I think with the difference at 400mm it may be in part to the fact different manufacturers can differ in focal length framing. Nikon's 400mm to them maybe something like 420mm on a Tamron. Anyway, the main take away is you can get closer with Tamron not only in min, focus, but also focal length. Have a great weekend buddy, cheers 🙏

Hello Adrian: Well, I get lucky, I get to leave the first comment for one of your videos.
While I don't have the older Nikkor 80-400 lens, I am very intrigued by the new Tamron. Thank you once again for a throrough review and the reasons why folks should consider this lens as and for an upgrade.

Hi Adrian. For overall sharpness, do you think the 50-400 is sharper than the Tamron 150-500? Great review as always! Thank you for all that you do. Happy weekend to you!

They're close, but I think the 50-400mm is better (not by much though) in sharpness

Hello Adrian, I get luck and am finally able to leave the first comment on one of your videos. I was pleased to see this review as I am considering this new Tamron lens.
Here on the East Coast of the USA, this new Tamron is not yet in stock in most stores and is available for pre-order. I hope Tamron starts delivering these soon.
Thank you again for another great review.

Dang, Tamron is killing it and making some choices really tough within their own catalog now. I have the 150-500 as a backup or smaller option to the 180-600 but this is a great option. I can also see this lens as what appears to be a better alternative to the new Nikon 28-400, except on weight and wide angle.

    • @adrianalfordphotography
      @adrianalfordphotography  2 месяца назад +1

Yes I have. I concur with what other photographers have said about the Z 100-400mm - it's way overpriced for what you get. On the long end the sharpness wasn't that great on the copy of the lens I used. Whereas on this Tamron it's tac sharp all the way through the focal range. My tests in this video prove that.

@@adrianalfordphotography thank you yes I’ve seen several reviews where they said that the Nikon 100-400 wasn’t as sharp as it should be especially for the price thank you so much for your prompt response. I really appreciate your input. Have a great weekend. I know there will be times I would want to use it for Bird photography, which is something I do a lot of but my main purpose would be as a travel lens

Adrian, you gave some compelling reasons to upgrade to that lens. Amazing that it could almost double as a macro lens. Question regarding the test you did focusing on Yoda at 400mm, I wonder if that is due to focus breathing with the older Nikon lens. If you focus on something far away, close to infinity do you have the same effect of having longer reach with the Tamron? Have a great weekened!

Hello Adrian great review my friend. Like all new products they find way of improving them. I own the 18-400 f3.5 to 6 Tamron and it’s not bad but for sure not as sharp. Your Nikon 80-400 for a 10 year old lens it’s still amazing. Have a safe week ahead my friend. 📸🙏🏼👏😊

    Good evening,
Your reviews of this Tamron lens are very interesting. However, it would also be interesting to compare it directly to Nikon's Z100-400/4.5-5.6, which is the direct evolution of the 80-400.
If you were ever able to compare this Tamron to the Nikon, which lens offers the best background blur at 400mm?
And which lens offers the best micro detail and sharpness at 400mm?
For versatility and magnification ratio, the Tamron seems to win out, but what about image crispness?
    Thanks for your feedback

Thanks for the video. I only own a Nikon Z, so if you had to choose between Tamron 50-400mm or Nikon180-600, which are in same price range (US Dollars), which one would you choose?

    • @adrianalfordphotography
      @adrianalfordphotography  2 месяца назад +1

@@zygmuntziokowski7877 that would completely depend on the type of photography you were doing. Eg birds and wildlife 180-600mm, traveling/landscape 50-400mm
